The supporter managed to get past security at the Green Point stadium in Cape Town following England’s lacklustre goalless draw against Algeria in order to berate the players.

The security breach occurred shortly after the Prince William and Prince Harry, who had been attending the match, had paid a morale boosting visit to the team.

The disgruntled fan is understood to have confronted former England captain David Beckham over the team’s poor performance.

Tomlinson leaves Vikings' facility

The Minnesota Vikings wined and dined LaDainian Tomlinson on Wednesday night, then spent much of Thursday meeting with the star running back in hopes of pairing him with Adrian Peterson in what would be a big-name backfield.

Tomlinson emerged from Vikings headquarters on Thursday evening with a purple Vikings jersey in hand, but pulled away in a black limousine without a deal in place.

Tomlinson declined to comment to reporters before the limo drove away, but several people with knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press that the two sides had yet to reach a deal. Those people spoke anonymously because talks are ongoing with Tomlinson.

Tomlinson will still make his scheduled visit to the Jets on Friday, a league source confirmed to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter

The Dolphins, Titans and Panthers all won their respective divisions last season and had a combined record of 36-12.
All three are 0-2 and must go on the road this week to face good teams. Miami has been here before: The Dolphins were one of three teams (along with San Diego and Minnesota) to start 0-2 last year, and then stop the bleeding with a Week 3 win on the way to winning a division crown.

One head coach said, "There's no way these three 0-2 teams go to 0-3, they're too good!" With their backs to the wall, I agree. But can the Dolphins win at San Diego? The Titans at the Jets? The Panthers at Dallas?

Young surprises McNair's sons

For one day at least, Vince Young stepped up to try to fill the void for the late Steve McNair's two young sons, the Tennessean reported Thursday.

Young surprised 11-year-old Trenton and 5-year-old Tyler on Wednesday by showing up at their house and taking them to their school's "Dear Dads Breakfast" at a local restaurant.

"Those are my boys," Young told the Tennessean. "I wouldn't say it was to pay anyone back; it was just out of love. Steve would do it for me. He pretty much did it for me when I was growing up. I have a history with the boys and I want to do anything I can. I am their big brother."

Julie Dilworth, admissions director at St. Paul Christian Academy, lauded Young's actions.
"It was a great, great gesture," Dilworth told the Tennessean. "All the kids had been talking about the dads' breakfast and [Trenton and Tyler] were wondering what was going to happen with them.

"They were thrilled ... the boys came to school with huge smiles on their faces."

NFL probing Mangini's actions

Browns coach Eric Mangini can't seem to escape from New York.

The NFL is investigating Mangini's role in the Jets' failure to list quarterback Brett Favre's arm problem on injury reports last season. Mangini coached the Jets during Favre's one season in New York before he was fired after the team collapsed down the stretch.

Last week, Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum admitted the club should have listed Favre, who had a torn biceps tendon, as "probable" on the injury report for the last four or five games. Favre said the Jets knew of the injury, which required offseason surgery.

Spokesman Greg Aiello said Mangini's actions will be examined as part of the league's inquiry.
"Since he was head coach of the Jets at the time, we are reviewing his role in the situation as part of the overall review," Aiello said in an e-mail response to The Associated Press.

On Monday, commissioner Roger Goodell said he expects to rule on the matter this week. The Jets and Mangini could be subject to a fine.

Mangini said he has always abided by the league's guidelines for injury reports.
"That was true there [New York]. It's true here," Mangini said. "It'll be true every week of the season and that's how we approach it."

Goodell said the Favre case is an opportunity to stress that all teams must abide by the injury report rules.

"We establish policies. They're to be followed. And all 32 clubs are going to be held accountable for that and, unfortunately, when someone violates it, the other 31 know that," he said.

Drew Brees: Brees was sensational in 2008. He apparently didn't lose his mojo during the offseason. Brees tied a Saints record with six touchdown passes and threw for 358 yards as New Orleans beat the Lions 45-27. Two of Brees' touchdown passes went to Jeremy Shockey, who hadn't scored since being traded from the New York Giants to New Orleans last season.

Adrian Peterson: All eyes were on Brett Favre, but Peterson ended up playing the starring role in Minnesota's 34-20 victory at Cleveland. Despite being held to 25 rushing yards in the first half, Peterson finished with 180 yards on 25 carries. Peterson scored on a pair of 1-yard plunges and capped his day with an electrifying 64-yarder in the fourth quarter.

Tony Romo: Romo threw for a career-high 353 yards and three long touchdowns Sunday, helping the Cowboys begin the post-Terrell Owens era with a 34-21 victory at Tampa Bay. Romo's day was highlighted by an 80-yard TD pass to Patrick Crayton in the fourth quarter. It was the longest pass play of Romo's career.

DUDS
Jake Delhomme: Dreadful. Humiliating. Forgettable. Delhomme's Week 1 performance was all three. Playing his first meaningful game since committing six turnovers against Arizona in last season's playoffs, Delhomme committed five turnovers in Carolina's 38-10 loss to the Eagles. Delhomme was 7-for-17 for 73 yards with four interceptions and a lost fumble before being benched in the third quarter.

Larry Johnson: Running backs generally have a tough time against the Ravens' defense. Johnson, the last player to run for 100 yards against the Ravens (December 2006), was no exception on Sunday. Johnson finished with 20 yards on 11 carries in Kansas City's 38-24 loss. The Chiefs rushed for only 29 yards total.

Jay Cutler: Cutler nearly fumbled his first snap Sunday night. His Bears regular-season debut didn't get much better after that. Cutler threw for 277 yards, but he also had a career-high four interceptions in Chicago's 21-15 loss at Green Bay.

McNabb fractures rib in Eagles' win

Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb has a fractured rib on his lower left side, coach Andy Reid said Sunday afternoon.

It is unknown how long McNabb will be sidelined, but Reid said "there's a chance," he would play next week against the New Orleans Saints.

Sources: Sanchez to start for Jets

What the football world expected became reality Wednesday when the Jets quarterbacks were informed that Mark Sanchez is the team's new starter, team sources confirmed to ESPN.

Sanchez will start the Jets' third preseason game against the New York Giants on Saturday night and, more important, the team's regular-season opener at Houston against the Texans.

It wasn't a question of if Sanchez would be named the starter but when. Even though he struggled some against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night, the Jets have seen enough moxie and talent from Sanchez to make this year's fifth overall pick the face of the franchise and their new starting quarterback.

The designation of Sanchez as the Jets' starter was first reported by FoxSports.com.

Favre signs with Vikings

Brett Favre is coming back for more.

The 39-year-old quarterback turned his back on retirement for the second time in as many years, agreeing Tuesday to play for the Minnesota Vikings.

"I felt I did everything I possibly could do to get where I need to be," Favre said at his introductory news conference Tuesday. "You're 39, your arm may not feel like it did at 21. But the pieces are in place that you don't have to do that much and I agree with that.

"If they were willing to take that chance, I was, too."

Favre finally decided that he didn't want to live with regrets.

"I don't know how I'll feel a year from now, five years from now, but I didn't want to say what if," he said.

The Vikings will pay Favre $12 million this year and $13 million next season, sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen and ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The contract does not contain performance bonuses.

Because Favre is a vested veteran, the $12 million is guaranteed for this season if he is on the opening day roster. This also applies to the $13 million 2010 deal. This year, $6 million is guaranteed for skill and injury, meaning that if he is bad during the next few weeks, the Vikings can't get out for less than $6 million.

The 2009 salary payments are deferred: $4 million over the season, $4 million in March and $4 million in 2011.

Brett Favre to play again....

A high-placed NFL source said Tuesday morning that the agent for retired quarterback Brett Favre (notes) spent much of Monday calling to check on the details of what would be a one-year, $12 million deal for Favre to join the Minnesota Vikings.

Favre’s agent, Bus Cook did not immediately return phone messages left by Yahoo! Sports. A call to the Vikings also was not immediately returned. However, the league source said Cook indicated that a deal could be reached within the next few days.

Then again, all of that depends on Favre, who has wavered on whether to stay retired since making his initial announcement to leave the Green Bay Packers in March 2008. Favre had been expected to join the Vikings at the start of training camp, but then told Minnesota coach Brad Childress that he wasn’t interested in playing at that time.
The talks by Cook come on the heals of strong speculation by FOX Sports NFL reporter Jay Glazer on Monday that Favre would join the Vikings later this year.

Yang ensures major-less year for Tiger

In a year of spoilers at the majors, Y.E. Yang was the biggest of all.
He toppled the mighty Tiger Woods.

Yang became the first Asian-born player to win a major Sunday with a stunning performance in the PGA Championship, memorable as much for his clutch shots as the player he beat.

Woods was 14-0 when he went into the final round of a major atop the leaderboard. He had not lost any tournament around the world in nine years when leading by two shots.

None of that mattered to Yang, a 37-year-old South Korean who hit the shots everyone expected from Woods. Leading by one on the final hole, Yang slayed golf's giant with a hybrid 3-iron that cleared the bunker and settled 12 feet from the cup.

Yang made the birdie putt and shouted with joy as he pumped his fist. That gave him a 2-under 70, and a three-shot victory when Woods missed yet another short par putt and shot 75.
"I tried to master the art of controlling my emotions throughout the small wins I had in my career," Yang said through his agent, Michael Yim. "I think it turned out quite well today."
His victory is massive for Asia, the fastest-growing market in golf. Perhaps even more significant is that the way he stood up to Woods, the world's No. 1 player whose heritage is half-Asian through his Thai-born mother.

Yang and K.J. Choi are the only PGA Tour players who learned golf in South Korea before coming to America. South Koreans have had far more success on the LPGA Tour, with seven players combining to win 11 majors.

His victory came four days after golf was recommended to become part of the Olympics in 2016.

Tiger poised to claim 15th career major

The coronation of Tiger Woods turned into a contest Saturday at the PGA Championship.

What had looked so inevitable -- Woods with a four-shot lead on the weekend at a major -- suddenly became filled with possibilities as his margin vanished along the back nine at Hazeltine.

Only a late birdie by Woods and a lone bogey from Padraig Harrington gave the final major a familiar look.

Woods, playing it safe to avoid throwing away shots, wound up with a 1-under 71 and had a two-shot lead over Harrington and Y.E. Yang. That left Woods one round away from capturing his 15th major, with more company than anyone expected.

"The narrower the gap, the better," Harrington said.

But it's still a gap. The advantage still belongs to Woods.

Vick has first practice with Eagles

A two-year layoff sure didn't hurt Vick's arm strength. He showed off his skills Saturday in his first NFL practice with the Philadelphia Eagles since completing his prison sentence.

A person close to the talks who asked not to be identified says Manning is guaranteed $35 million under the deal that will keep him with the Giants through the 2015 season, The Associated Press reported. Former New York Giants star Plaxico Burress was indicted by a grand jury on weapons charges for shooting himself in the thigh at a Manhattan nightclub and faces a minimum prison sentence of 3½ years if convicted, prosecutors announced Monday.

The indictment charged the 31-year-old Burress with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of reckless endangerment, Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau said.

"The grand jury applied the law to the facts of this case," Morgenthau said. He said the accidental shooting at the Latin Quarter nightclub on Nov. 29 was treated "like any similar case against any other defendant."

Burress' lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, said he was disappointed but not surprised by the indictment, which came after Burress testified before the grand jury and expressed remorse.
"When you have the mayor and the district attorney both publicly demanding a maximum prison sentence, it was perhaps too much to hope for the grand jury to conduct a sympathetic review of the unique facts of this sad case," Brafman said in a statement.

Tiger Woods won the Buick Open for a third time and claimed his 69th PGA Tour victory.
Ho hum.
Not quite.

Woods shot a 3-under 69 and coasted to a three-shot victory with a 20-under 268 total at Warwick Hills, which hosted its first Buick Open in 1958 and seemed to stage its final one Sunday.

"I've played all around the world, and I've never seen a day like this," said Woods, also the 2002 and 2006 winner at Warwick Hills. "This event has always been special, but today was something else."

Phelps' 400 medley team sets record

Michael Phelps and the U.S. 400-meter medley relay team closed the fastest meet in swimming history with an appropriate finish Sunday night -- the 43rd world record.

Phelps earned his fifth gold medal of a world championships that showed he's still got plenty of motivation, even after winning a record eight times at the Beijing Olympics.

Swimming the butterfly leg, Phelps helped the U.S. pull away from Germany and Australia to win in 3 minutes, 27.28 seconds.

Report: BoSox probed steroid use in '08

A Boston newspaper is reporting the Red Sox fired two security staffers last summer after an investigation into steroid use.

Jared Remy, the son of Red Sox television commentator Jerry Remy, and Nicholas Alex Cyr both told the Boston Globe they used steroids, but denied any knowledge of drug use by players.

The Red Sox issued a statement saying they worked with Major League Baseball in investigating the staffers, but said that investigation is confidential. Major League Baseball said its investigation was "thorough and detailed."

"They didn't ask much at all; they wanted to make it disappear," Jared Remy said, according to the report.

The Globe says state police confiscated a vial of steroids from Cyr's car just before last year's All-Star break and Cyr told police he had bought the drug from Remy.

The league's investigation of the matter failed to uncover where Remy had obtained the steroids, the newspaper reported.

"I was never asked a question from anyone on the Red Sox -- not one," Remy said. "You would've thought they would've asked me something, you know?"

Cyr was accompanied by his mother to his meeting with the MLB officials, according to the report. Cyr and his mother said the investigators were only interested in whether high-profile members of the team had been using steroids.

"That's all he wanted to know," said Lindsey Cyr. "He asked Alex if Alex had ever given any to Manny Ramirez and he said absolutely not.''

A Brazilian police investigation has determined that the death of boxer Arturo Gatti was a suicide and a court has ordered the release of his wife, once suspected of killing him, officials said Thursday.
Lead investigator Paulo Alberes told The Associated Press authorities found that Gatti killed himself on July 11 in a seaside resort in northeastern Brazil.

When asked if police had determined the case was a suicide, Alberes said "yes." He offered no other details, but said he would hold a news conference later in the day.

A day after Gatti was found dead, police said that his 23-year-old Brazilian wife, Amanda Rodrigues, had strangled him with her purse strap as he drunkenly slept.

But police began to back off the accusation about a week later after a coroner's report said that Gatti may have killed himself as he was found hanged and suspended. Rodrigues' lawyer said at the time that proved his client's innocence because she could not have physically lifted Gatti.

Mickelson to play at Hazeltine

Phil Mickelson will play at next month's PGA Championship.

Organizers said Mickelson is confirmed as an entrant for the event at Hazeltine in Minnesota. It's the fourth and final major of the season.

Mickelson has been away from the tour for nearly two months as his wife, Amy, undergoes breast cancer treatment. He's scheduled to play his first event back on the tour next week at the Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio.

Mickelson played a practice round Wednesday at Hazeltine, looking relaxed as he hit a long drive on the par-5 15th and chatted with his playing partners.

Mickelson had played in 61 consecutive major tournaments before skipping the British Open. The PGA Championship starts Aug. 13.

Favre opts to remain retired

After nearly three months of what he described as intense and often emotional soul-searching, Brett Favre decided to remain retired from the NFL rather than become the Minnesota Vikings' starting quarterback.

Favre told ESPN's Ed Werder that the decision not to play for the Vikings was incredibly difficult, and in the process he indicated that he is unlikely to ever considering playing again in the NFL.

"It was the hardest decision I've ever made," Favre said. "I didn't feel like physically I could play at a level that was acceptable. I would like to thank everyone, including the Packers, Jets and Vikings -- but, most importantly, the fans."

Favre, who had shoulder surgery in May, experienced soreness in both ankles and his left knee during his private workouts in Mississippi. The pain would not subside and worsened as he continued to prepare for a potential 19th NFL season, which Favre considered proof that his health was too precarious to be trusted for a 16-game season.

"I had to be careful not to commit for the wrong reasons," Favre said. "They were telling me, 'You went through all this, you had the surgery and you've got to finish it off.' But I have legitimate reasons for my decision. I'm 39 with a lot of sacks to my name."

Alberto Contador and Lance Armstrong are sniping again after a fragile truce during the Tour de France.

Contador, who secured his second Tour win on Sunday in Paris, said he had no admiration for the American as a person and tensions between the two had a negative effect on the Astana team. Armstrong, the seven-time champion who finished third in his first Tour since 2005, responded that Contador should "drop this drivel."

Burress OK'd year in jail, DA says

Manhattan's district attorney says he wants former Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress to serve time in prison, the New York Post reported.

Robert Morgenthau told the newspaper that Burress, who shot himself with an unlicensed gun in November, was willing to agree to spend a year in jail, but prosecutors insisted on two, the Post reported.

"We've always taken the position that he's going to have to go to jail, whether by trial or by plea," Morgenthau told the Post for a story in Monday's edition.

Burress shot himself in the thigh at a nightclub early on the morning of Nov. 29. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and faces up to 3½ years in prison. Burress has pleaded not guilty and is free on $100,000 bail. The Giants released Burress in April.

Vick, free after serving 18 months in prison for running a dogfighting ring, was reinstated with conditions by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday. He could participate in regular-season games as early as October.

Vick can immediately take part in preseason practices, workouts and meetings and can play in the final two preseason games -- if he can find a team that will sign him. A number of teams have already said they would not.

Former two-division world champion Vernon Forrest was shot and killed Saturday night during an attempted robbery, police said Sunday.

Fulton County medical examiner Michele Stauffenberg confirmed the case was a homicide and that the autopsy showed Forrest died from "multiple gunshot wounds involving the torso and thigh." Sgt. Lisa Keyes said a police report on the shooting was not immediately available.

WSB Radio in Atlanta first reported the shooting, citing a police spokesman. Forrest, who was 38, lived in Atlanta and was an Augusta, Ga., native.

Lt. Keith Meadows told the radio station that Forrest was shot seven or eight times -- at least once in the head -- as he chased at least two men who had tried to steal his Jaguar as he put air in its tires at an Atlanta gas station. Forrest had a gun and confronted the men, who fatally wounded him with two semi-automatic weapons, according to police.

Buffalo Bills receiver Terrell Owens is disappointed in the way NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is considering Michael Vick's reinstatement now that the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback has served a 23-month prison sentence for his role in an illegal dogfighting ring.

Owens called the possibility of an additional Vick suspension to start the season, possibly for four games, "ridiculous" while meeting with reporters after Sunday morning's training camp session at St. John Fisher College.
"The Michael Vick situation, I think, is unfortunate," Owens said. "I think the way the commissioner is handling it is unfair to Michael Vick. I think he's done the time for what he's done. I don't think it's really fair for him to be suspended four more games. It's almost like kicking a dead horse in the ground.

"A lot of the guys around the league need to speak up. I think the players' union needs to step in because the guy's already suffered so much, and to add a four-game suspension onto a two-year prison sentence, I mean, that's ridiculous."

Vikings still waiting for Favre's decision

Brett Favre is still mulling his NFL future, the quarterback's agent Bus Cook told ESPN.

Some reports projected Favre would reach a decision by Friday on whether he would sign with the Minnesota Vikings or stay retired, and while Cook told ESPN "he could," Cook added, "I think he's more likely to wait until the beginning or middle of next week."

Cook said that in a conversation with Favre on Friday morning, Favre was still considering all the mental and physical factors that would go into playing a long season as he turns 40 years old.

Cook also noted that before Favre can sign a contract, he would have to apply for reinstatement with the league. That can be handled in a letter faxed to the NFL offices, but it has not happened yet.

Nike says it is returning videotapes it confiscated of NBA star LeBron James getting dunked on at a recent basketball camp.

Nike said it is giving back tapes to two accredited journalists who filmed Xavier's Jordan Crawford dunking over James during a recent pickup game at a skills academy run by the superstar at the University of Akron. The sports apparel giant said only one of the tapes captured the infamous dunk, which has been an Internet sensation.

Nike said it took the tapes based on its media guidelines that no pickup games be filmed.

This week, videos emerged of Crawford's dunk in which he drove the lane and slammed over James, who was not guarding him and was the last defender between Crawford and the basket.

In its statement, Nike said it did not take the footage because James was dunked on.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger vowed Thursday to fight a Lake Tahoe casino hostess' rape allegations against him, calling them "false and vicious."

Roethlisberger was served with a civil lawsuit last weekend when he returned to Lake Tahoe, where Andrea McNulty, 31, alleges the quarterback raped her in a hotel penthouse in July 2008. Roethlisberger was in Nevada on both occasions to compete in a celebrity golf event.

The woman did not file a criminal complaint.

Here's my Beef, if this women is so concerned about justice my didn't she file a Criminal Complaint, why go for the money First???? Here's why, because it's false and she wants hush money....
