WEEK 4 NFL POWER RANKINGS

(1) Cowboys 3-0-0 Two big NFC wins in a row put the Cowboys in the driver's seat. Rivalry game against the Redskins looms.

(3) Giants 3-0-0 I have them pretty much even with the Eagles, but ties aren't allowed. Close call against Bengals will help in long run.

(5) Eagles 2-1-0 They put up points against a solid Cowboys defense and then used a fierce pass rush to slow down the Steelers. We need to see how Brian Westbrook responds to the ankle injury.

(9) Titans 3-0-0 Hardly playing perfect ball, but still 3-0. Some of it's the competition; some of it's a very good football team doing enough to win. Next mission: Slow Adrian Peterson.

(2) Steelers 2-1-0 The Eagles exploited the Steelers' poor pass protection. Things won't get any easier against the Ravens on Monday.

(10) Bills 3-0-0 The Bills escaped with a victory despite a shaky performance against the Raiders. They have posted two fourth-quarter comebacks in a row and should cruise to 4-0 Sunday against the Rams.

(11) Broncos 3-0-0 The Broncos survived another tight game. Doubt their next game, at Kansas City, will be as nerve-wracking for the residents of Bronco Country.

(4) Packers 2-1-0 The worst news out of their Sunday night loss to Dallas was CB Al Harris' ruptured spleen. That changes everything.

(13) Chargers 1-2-0 The Chargers put 48 on the Jets on Monday night. That's a good way of avoiding another last-second defeat.

(8) Panthers 2-1-0 Couldn't protect Jake Delhomme enough for him to get the ball to Steve Smith against the Vikings.

(6) Patriots 2-1-0 The season can go south in a hurry if they don't shake off the humilating loss to the Dolphins. The Patriots have lost their mojo without Tom Brady. They better find an infusion from another source straight away.

(7) Colts 1-2-0 Their run defense is not good enough to win with right now, but the Colts keep repeating their mantra: We have to do what we do. Luckily this week, what they do is have a bye.

(17) Buccaneers 2-1-0 At this pace, Jon Gruden will make Brian Griese into a Pro Bowler.

(18) Jaguars 1-2-0 Feeling much better about themselves after a hard-earned win in Indy. Difficult to win regularly if it's that hard, and the solution to that is a couple big pass plays.

(19) Redskins 2-1-0 Huge opportunity Sunday against the Cowboys. Jason Campbell has looked superb in consecutive victories.

(12) Saints 1-2-0 Defensive lapses and injuries have made for a slow start.

(20) Ravens 2-0-0 The Ravens could go 3-0 overall and against the AFC North with a victory Monday at Pittsburgh, a surprising start for a team sporting rookies at coach and QB.

(14) Cardinals 2-1-0 The Cardinals' first two turnovers of the season doomed them at Washington. Arizona stays on the East Coast this week for date with Jets.

(21) Vikings 1-2-0 Gus Frerotte is an improvement at quarterback. Now the Vikings have to keep him upright for 14 games.

(15) Bears 1-2-0 The Bears have led all three of their games in the fourth quarter. Good teams know how to finish.

(16) Jets 1-2-0 The bye can't come soon enough for Brett Favre's continuing transition. That won't be until Week 5. He needs a lot more time before he'll look comfortable.

(25) 49ers 2-1-0 Mike Martz has the 49ers believing. The schedule gets tougher, but they are having fun again.

(23) Seahawks 1-2-0 The ground game is rounding into form. The bye week gives Seattle time to get healthier at receiver.

(26) Falcons 2-1-0 The Falcons have shown they can beat bad teams. But they need to show they can play with good teams.

(30) Dolphins 1-2-0 The Dolphins rebounded from an awful performance in Arizona to deliver an epic thumping of the Patriots. It will be a few more weeks before we learn which outing was the aberration.

(22) Browns 0-3-0 Starting QB change worked last season, why not now? Showdown with the Bengals is a must-win.

(24) Texans 0-2-0 With a QB controversy brewing, at least on the radio, the Texans can take some solace in their historical ability to give the Jaguars major headaches.

(28) Bengals 0-3-0 Valiant effort at defending SB champion Giants fell short. Showdown with the Browns in Week 4 is a must-win.

(27) Raiders 1-2-0 The Raiders are playing hard. And that's half the battle in Oakland these days.

(29) Lions 0-3-0 Bill Ford Jr. wants to fire GM Matt Millen. That's a start.

(31) Chiefs 0-3-0 The Chiefs aren't showing any signs of being a team that is ready to compete to win a game.

(32) Rams 0-3-0 The Rams are on pace to finish with 3,237 yards while allowing 7,307. Enough said.
