Brett Farve a JET.... Fantasy Implications

Now that Favre has traded green-and-gold for green-and-white, what are the fantasy implications?

Treat Favre as a backup, and pair him with a starting quarterback that has an injury history (Donovan McNabb) or one with an offensive line that surrenders a lot of sacks (Ben Roethlisberger).
Here are four players whose values are directly and indirectly related to Favre's move to New York.

Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens obviously aren't included. They won't be seeing many snaps this season.

Thomas Jones, RB, Jets. Picked up a ton of offseason value despite a subpar 2007 season where he rushed for just one TD. Now Jones has a bigger, better line and a surefire Hall-of-Fame quarterback in front of him. Jones has hit the 1,000-yard mark in each of the last three seasons. He'll hit it again in '08. Jones is not a sexy choice as your No. 2 back, but he'll produce like one.

Jerricho Cotchery, WR, Jets. Veteran Laveranues Coles will serve as Favre's new Donald Driver, but Cotchery is the one who will have a breakout season. Cotchery racked up 18 catches of 20 yards or more and 1,130 yards while having to put up with Pennington and Clemens. Cotchery is the big-play threat who will be Favre's new Greg Jennings. Expect at least seven TDs to go with another 1,000-yard effort. Cotchery now is a good choice as a

No. 2. Dustin Keller, TE, Jets. The rookie tight end should go to Bubba Franks' room right now and get the low-down about what it's like to play with Favre. Keller caught plenty of passes at Purdue, and he has wowed the Jets' staff at training camp. Plus, Favre has been known to look for a tight end or two in the red zone. Keller is an awesome sleeper pick.

Aaron Rodgers, QB, Packers. He's still not completely out of Favre's shadow, but Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy clearly meant what he said about Rodgers being the starting quarterback. The preseason isn't important for most QBs, but it will be for Rodgers. Watch him closely in the preseason opener against Cincinnati. With the strong supporting cast, Rodgers remains playable as a backup fantasy QB with the potential to become a starter.
