Early on, Carson Palmer was very accurate in the cold rain, while Ben Roethlisberger was errant, often throwing high. As the game went along, Pittsburgh's defense frustrated Cincinnati's offense, and Palmer lost accuracy, spraying the ball and often missing his target high. Meanwhile, Roethlisberger's precision greatly improved and his confidence rose. Pittsburgh's strong pass protection -- a major problem area coming into this contest -- had much to do with its quarterback's increased playmaking ability. The Steelers utilized their no-huddle with four-receiver sets, with Roethlisberger in the shotgun or using three-step drops. He got the ball out quickly and often targeted Hines Ward, who was outstanding and continually came through by running sharp routes and snatching the ball with soft hands despite the weather. Pittsburgh won in spite of Willie Parker's fumbles.
